Packed food waste consists of packed products – wet and dry – such as leftovers from supermarkets, organic household waste (kerbside collected waste), restaurant & hotel leftovers, industrial & commercial organic waste.

These co-products feature a high calorific value and are perfect for digestion, which makes them ideal for use in biogas installations. However, after collecting lots of products remain packed and still contain plastics, metal, cardboard or other materials. If the packaging is not removed in a correct way before entering the biogas installation, it will cause all sorts of problems throughout the whole process. Think of floating layers of packaging, sedimentation of packaging, wear on pump/piping. In worst case it will end up in the digestate and as the packaging will not digest, the organic part cannot be spread across the land.
