Het bericht Expanding organic waste services with a flexible depackaging solution in Spain verscheen eerst op Mavitec Green Energy.
]]>This required a depackaging solution capable of handling varying input materials as volumes and compositions change.
The incoming material mainly consists of packaged supermarket waste with fluctuating compositions and moisture levels. Some batches require wet processing, for example products such as dairy or meat products, while others such as bread, tortillas, snack products or coffee capsules are better suited for dry operation. To operate efficiently, the installation needed to switch smoothly between wet and dry configurations without compromising process stability. At the same time, the solution had to integrate into a relatively small-scale facility, keeping daily operation straightforward and manageable.
Mavitec Green Energy supplied a Paddle Depacker Model S line, executed in stainless steel and configured for both wet and dry operation. The system separates packaging from the organic fraction efficiently, producing a clean organic output suitable for further processing.
Based on experience from comparable installations, the configuration was optimised to improve the transition between wet and dry modes. This adjustment enhances operational flexibility while maintaining stable throughput and consistent separation performance. The optimisation was implemented in close coordination with the customer and local agent.
With the Paddle Depacker Model S in operation, the customer now processes packaged supermarket waste with greater control and adaptability. The installation provides the flexibility required to handle different waste streams while maintaining a stable and reliable process.
By combining a robust depackaging principle with practical engineering adjustments, the solution supports both current operations and future expansion plans, without introducing unnecessary complexity to the plant.
We recently added a Mobile Paddle Depacker Model S to our rental fleet, allowing waste processors to test the system with their own material before investing. Our specialists support waste processors worldwide in configuring reliable depackaging solutions tailored to their specific material streams and operational requirements. ]]>Het bericht From Municipal Organic Waste to Clean Biogas – A Smart Treatment Solution in Normandy, France verscheen eerst op Mavitec Green Energy.
]]>In Normandy, France, Mavitec Green Energy supplied a complete preprocessing line to turn complex, packaged organic waste into clean input for anaerobic digestion. The installation supports a municipality-led collection program and a local biogas plant that needed a scalable setup to protect digester performance and ensure a clean return to soil.
The municipality of Costrobert launched a pilot for separate organic waste collection in 2022, anticipating the national obligation that became mandatory on 1 January 2024. As volumes increased, the biogas plant in Cléville quickly outgrew its basic depackaging approach. The next step was clear: upgrade to an integrated line built around purity, stability and circular valorisation. The biogas plant is a returning Mavitec customer, expanding its setup based on earlier positive experiences with our equipment.
The incoming organic waste consists of material from households, supermarkets and food industry sources. A large share of these streams arrives packaged, which makes contamination hard to avoid and purity harder to control.
The objective was to separate packaging efficiently, produce a high-quality organic fraction for stable biogas production and meet strict purity requirements. At the same time, the plant aimed to improve the packaging fraction so it could be directed to recycling streams.
Met de paddle depacker komen we al op wetgeving, maar klant wilde kwaliteit van de soep nog beter. en daarom orgapuur systeem.
The process starts with the Mavitec Paddle Depacker, which separates packaging from organic material and produces a continuous, pumpable organic slurry (“soup”) for anaerobic digestion. A hydrocyclone system then removes heavy contaminants such as glass, shells and stones, helping to protect downstream equipment and support stable digestion performance.
Where required, the slurry is hygienised (70 °C for one hour) and ground to 12 mm. As an extra polishing step, the slurry can be further filtered through an Orgapure line to remove remaining fine impurities. In parallel, the separated packaging fraction is processed by a Mavitec Paddle Washer to wash and dewater the material, improving handling and supporting recycling.
The result is a robust depackaging and conditioning process that delivers a clean organic fraction for biogas production and a packaging fraction ready for further recycling steps.
The installation produces a high-purity organic slurry, with microplastics reduced to non-detectable levels. This supports stable anaerobic digestion and contributes to a clean digestate suitable for agricultural use. With cleaner, more consistent feedstock, the plant benefits from reliable biogas production performance. At the same time, washed and dewatered packaging materials can be directed to recycling streams, supporting circular economy goals and regulatory compliance.
This project demonstrates how Mavitec Green Energy helps unlock the full value of organic waste: converting it into renewable energy while closing material loops. For this customer, it is also a natural next step in a longer collaboration with Mavitec, scaling up as volumes and quality requirements increased.

]]>To tackle this challenge, the plant turned to Mavitec Green Energy and tested the Paddle Depacker, a mobile depackaging unit designed to separate packaging from organic waste. This rental unit allowed the plant to test the solution under real operating conditions, using its own specific waste stream, without any upfront investment.
The results were promising. The system produced a high-quality organic slurry suitable for anaerobic digestion. At the same time, the amount of organic material remaining in the plastic fraction was greatly reduced. This not only improved the input for the biogas digester, but also lowered disposal costs due to lighter, cleaner waste.
Following the successful trial, the plant decided to install a permanent Paddle Depacker system. The full setup now includes a 8m³ front-loader storage hopper with twin screw feeding system, Paddle Depacker and organic piston pumping system, with a capacity of up to 30m³ per hour.
The system ensures that only high-purity organic material, with a verified purity level of 99.7%, enters the digester. This cleaner organic slurry does not only enhance biogas yield, but also supports a more stable, efficient plant operations.
With the new setup, the plant has significantly improved its efficiency. It now produces 1,000 kW of electricity and 1,600 kW of heat around the clock. Beyond improved energy output, the plant benefits from more consistent operations, lower processing costs and stronger environmental performance. This case illustrates how targeted technological solutions can help biogas facilities handle increasingly complex waste streams, while improving operational efficiency and supporting environmental objectives.
